About PodHawk

PodHawk is a content management system for podcasters. It does not have the bells and whistles of a full cms like Drupal or Joomla, or the full blogging capability of Wordpress. Instead, it focuses on what podcasters really need, and aims to do so well.

This is what you do to make a PodHawk podcast :

  • record your podcast using for example the excellent Audacity software.
  • upload your file to your PodHawk site. FTP is the easiest way to do this, but you can also use direct file upload.
  • click a couple of buttons in your PodHawk admin pages, give your new post a title and some descriptive text, and go on air.

PodHawk does the rest. It generates a full podcasting RSS feed, so that your listeners can subscribe to your podcasts in iTunes or another podcatcher. It generates a nice web-page with a Flash player, so that people can listen to your podcast straight from your site. And if you want, PodHawk will let your listeners send you comments - including audio comments - while protecting your site from spammers with the sophisticated Akismet anti-spam service.

PodHawk uses the powerful and versatile Smarty template engine to generate its web-pages. It contains eight ready-made web-page designs or "themes". You can use any of these themes as they are, or you can adapt them to your needs, or you can design your own theme from scratch. You can have as many different web-pages as you like within your chosen theme. Smarty will cache your web-pages, and your RSS feed, which means faster downloads, and less work for your server.
